  • Spiral Moon Ritual

How to work with the phases and cycles of the moon to design and live the life you want. A new moon, tarot, and astrology practice. The moon is our cosmic reminder to focus on designing the life we want to live. We can work with the phases and cycles of the moon to improve our relationships, finances, health, and more. Each new moon cycle intertwines with the next in a spiral of wisdom bringing light to the unknown of the future. A new moon cycle is the approximately 29.5 days the moon takes to orbit the earth. I like to refer to this cycle as of this as a moonth because it is like a calendar month and it’s fun to say. The moon transits through all 12 zodiac signs each moonth spending 2.5 days in each sign. The Sun spends about 30 days in each sign. There are eight moon phases. We will focus on five phases and use the metaphor of the life cycle of a plant. This will help us to visualize how our intentions develop over the course of a moon cycle. We start with planting seeds of intention at the new moon. We nurture the plant to grow at the waxing moon. We celebrate when the plant blossoms with a flower. We weed the plant to give it room to release at the waning moon. Finally, we receive the seeds of the next plant at the dark moon. What to do at the new moon? The new moon is an optimal time to set intentions, make wishes, or goals. The New Moon is 0 - 3 days of the Sun and Moon Conjunction Sun and Moon are 0º apart Moon Rises: Sunrise | Sets: Sunset The new moon happens when the sun and moon are conjunct 0º apart in the sky. When the sun and moon align in the same zodiac sign, their energy focuses on one area. This makes the new moon an optimal time to set intentions, make wishes, or goals. When setting intentions free write what you want. The intentions can big or small. It is ideal you limit them to ten. Consider writing the same intention from different perspectives. This will hone the energy in that area. Working with this practice for a year will have you touching on every aspect of life. Card 1 of moonthly spread. What to do at the waxing moon? The waxing moon is an optimal time to review and nurture your intentions. We can do this by developing them into SMART goals. The Waxing First Quarter Moon is 7 - 10 days after the New Moon Sun and Moon are 90º apart Moon Rises: Noon | Sets: Midnight The first quarter waxing moon happens when the sun and moon are 90º apart in the sky. This relationship creates a catalyst into action. The waxing moon is an optimal time to review and nurture our intentions. We can do this by developing them into SMART goals. Review your new moon intentions and pick one to three you would like to focus on making into reality. Determine what actions you will have to take. How you will fit the action into your schedule. Planning and dedication are of utmost importance. Please note: some intentions can come to life in as little as 2 weeks (new moon to full moon cycle) others can take years. The idea is to have something that motivates and mobilizes you to realize your dreams. Card two of moonthly spread. What to do at the full moon? The full moon is an optimal time to celebrate the blessings in your life. To let go and release any regrets. It is also about forgiveness. The Full Moon is 14 - 17 days after the New Moon Sun and Moon are 180º apart Moon Rises: Sunset | Sets: Sunrise The full moon happens when the sun and moon are 180º apart in the sky. The sun is usually still in the sign where the new moon started (not always) and the moon is in the opposite sign. This opposition creates a culmination energy we can use to develop new perspectives. The full moon is an optimal time to celebrate the blessings in your life. It is also ideal to let go and release any regrets weighing you down. Additionally, this is a good time for forgiveness, including for yourself. Charge your crystals and yourself under the light of moon. Dance off extra energy and throw in a couple of wild howls for extra fun. Card three of moonthly spread. What to do at the waning moon? The waning moon is an optimal time to reflect and assess our intentions list. The Waning Third Quarter Moon is 21 - 24 Days after the New Moon Sun and Moon are 90º apart Moon Rises: Midnight | Sets: Noon The third quarter waning moon happens when the sun and moon are 90º apart. The moon is now three quarters of the way in the cycle. The waning moon is an optimal time to reflect and release from our intentions list. You can do this by checking in with yourself and taking note of what lights you up and what weighs you down. Analyze what you want to keep and what to release from your life. Sometimes, we have an unconscious resistance to receiving what we want. The tarot is great to help you discover blind spots. Revisit your intention list. Is there anything that no longer resonates with you? If so, let it go. It is perfectly okay to release something we only thought we wanted. It was only there for brainstorming purposes, feel free to weed it out. Card four of moonthly spread. What to do at the dark moon The dark moon is an optimal time for introspection and integration of the actions we took or didn’t take. The Dark Moon is is 25 - 28 days after the New Moon Rises: Sunrise | Sets: Sunset The dark moon happens when the sun and moon are close together in the sky about 30º apart in the sky. The moon offers us a sliver of light, perfect for going within and communing with our intuition. The dark moon is an optimal time for introspection and integration of the actions we took or didn’t take. Use these two to three days to review how the moonth progressed. How did your intentions develop as you revisited them? Do this in meditation or by reviewing your notes. Prepare for the next new moon cycle by choosing what to keep and what to banish. Make a ritual of banishing by writing what you would like to release on paper and burning it. This will serve as an energetic cleanse. Card five of moonthly spread. Card five moves into the next moonth as card one. Spiral New Moon - Moonthly - Tarot Spread The Spiral New Moon Tarot Spread is a framework to keep you aligned with the waxing and waning cycles of life. Lay out the Moonthly tarot Spread on the days of the New Moon. Come back to it each week to develop your intentions and to check in with yourself and your progress. What is the seed of the New Moon? What do you nurture to grow at the Waxing Moon? What do you celebrate/forgive at the Full Moon? What do you release at the Waning moon? What is the seed of the upcoming New Moon? (use card #5 as card # 1 next moonth) Commit to your growth under the influence of the moon. Start off with a three-month commitment of working with the phases of the moon. It is a personal development and growth practice. The intentions you set at each new moon help you to move into new situations. It will help you to recognize resistance you may be holding on to. Let me know in the comments if you have a moon practice? How has connecting with the moon changed you?

  • 7 Types of Rest

Which rest combination do you need to wake up revitalized? Each of us should get as much rest as we need to be refreshed and recharged for all the days of the week. But what is rest? And what type of rest do we really need? When I think of rest, I usually think of sleep. Sleep is physical rest which is necessary for our health, growth, and well-being. The symptoms of not getting enough sleep are detrimental to our health. According to Sleep Foundation Org, symptoms of sleep deprivation include: Slowed thinking Reduced attention span Worsened memory Poor decision-making Lack of energy Mood changes "When I am resting because my body is weak, I need to remember that I'm not wasting the day doing nothing. I am doing exactly what I need to do. I'm recovering." - Author Unknown We know physical rest is essential to restore your body and mind. But there are different types of rest which are useful at different times. By understanding the seven different types identified here, you can help yourself to get the right combination of rest to get you energized, alert, and revitalized. What type of rest are you in need of today? Dr Saundra Dalton Smith author of Sacred Rest: Recover Your Life, Renew Your Energy, Restore Your Sanity has come up with seven types of rest. Come explore what each type looks like in practice and how you can make small changes that will lead to a more restful life. 1. Physical Rest Includes sleeping and napping. Six to eight hours of uninterrupted rest per night is the ideal. One thing I like to do to ensure restful sleep is to do my nighttime routine. It includes making a sleepy time herbal blend cup of tea, taking a shower, turning off every light, adjusting the temperature, and putting in my ear plugs. 2. Mental Rest Is about cutting down on multi-tasking. It turns out the brain can only do one thing at a time. We think we are multitasking but in fact we are only changing our attention quickly. Lately, I am working on stopping the multitasking mentality and focusing on doing one thing at a time. Whenever I feel frazzled, I take a deep breath, sometimes I will reach out for my anxiety soother tincture, and focus on what is important and productive. 3. Sensory Rest Make it a point to make time for peace and quiet. Set aside a time to turn off screens and maybe get outside in a natural space, or in a cozy corner to think and journal. It can also be about putting in some ear plugs and closing your eyes for a few moments just to get yourself centered and reset. 4. Creative Rest Take some time to allow yourself to appreciate beauty in nature or near where you live. It can also be experiencing the creativity of others by going to a museum or art gallery. It turns out that doing/making art projects is creative work not creative rest. Creative rest helps to inspire you to be solve problems and challenges with creative and unexpected solutions. 5. Emotional Rest Emotional Rest is about being authentic and accepting your feelings. It takes a lot of energy to express emotions you don't really feel. However, it may not be appropriate to discuss with your clients how bad business is going, or to discuss family issues at a work meeting. If this is happening turn to a trusted friend, family member, or confidant. It that won't work, get yourself a therapist, life coach, or mentor. 6. Spiritual Rest Is about connecting to the sense of meaning and belonging to something greater than yourself. For some, it has to do with religion or faith. For others it is about being or feeling like an integral part of a community, cause, or work culture. Get centered and consider how you are contributing to the bigger picture and that will put your spirit to rest. 7. Social Rest Is about spending quality time with people who nourish and uplift your energy. Take a look around and consider the people you spend time with, if they have expectations or bring you into a negative spiral you may need to take a focused break from them. Seek out the company of family, friends, or even a group you are a part of. You will know you experienced social rest when you feel energized, uplifted, and joyful. Feeling refreshed and recharged is of utmost of importance to our physical and mental health. If you are feeling tired after a long night's sleep make sometime to find the key to your ideal rest combination.

  • Taurus is the Hierophant in Tarot

In astrology Taurus is about building a practical and stable life full of comfort, beauty, and security. Taurus also has a need to have a balance between the spiritual and material worlds. They develop beliefs that form a positive sense of self via traditions and values. In tarot, The Hierophant is the card of time-honored values, traditions, and beliefs. He is an authority in matters of faith and divine wisdom. The Hierophant and Taurus are committed to structure, long standing rituals, and comfort for personal growth and development. In a reading The Hierophant symbolizes ritual, conformity, spiritual advice. Belief systems. Blessings. And, so much more as you will see later in this post. Taurus is represented by the Hierophant in Tarot. The Hierophant is known by many names in modern Tarot decks. According to Robert Place, author and tarot historian, the word Hierophant means sacred priest in Greek and the first known tarot deck, the Visconti-Sforza from the 1451, refers to Major Arcana Card V as the Pope. In the late 1700s it was changed to the Hierophant by Court de Gebelin. I was inspired to write this post while reading about asteroid Chiron in the book Astrology for yourself by Douglas Bloch & Demetria George. They mentioned that Chiron is depicted as the Hierophant in the Mythic Tarot - He is the the inner spiritual teacher. As usual, I allowed myself to go on a spiral - a Hierophant spiral - and I share some of what I found here. Also, I'd like to point out that all the images are from the tarot deck apps created by the Fools Dog. I highly recommend getting a tarot deck app as it is an easy way to browse all the cards of a deck while having the full book contents at your finger tips. Currently my phone holds 16 different tarot apps plus a few oracle card decks. The Mythic Tarot The Hierophant is Chiron "Chiron, the Hierophant, implies that the individual will begin to actively seek answers of a philosophical kind. They may emerge as the study of a particular philosophy or system of belief, or as a deep commitment to a quest for meaning in life. The Hierophant may appear as an analyst, psychotherapist, priest, or spiritual mentor." By Juliet Sharman-Burke & Liz Greene & Tricia Newell The Vision Quest Tarot The Hierophant is the Shaman "The Shaman inside you is capable of merging his intuitive perceptiveness with the wisdom of the Elders. Meditate and find out what really motivates you, what your inner core truly desires. Shift your attention to what is essential. Most essential in your life your own being." by Gayan Sylvie Winter The Tabula Mundi Tarot The Hierophant is the Magus of the Eternal Gods Zodiacal Trump of Taurus; Venus rules, Moon exalted "Listen to the guidance of the wise one that holds the keys. Meleen The Enchanted Tarot The Hierophant is the old Man "Rules and traditions are based on the sincere desire of our predecessors to preserve what was useful in their time. • Taurus New Moon

The moon is starting a new cycle in Taurus on Friday, May 19th at 11:53 am Et and for the next 72 hours it is an ideal time to set intentions. Think about your values, money, and security. A new moon is when the sun and moon are in the same sign at the same degree. In this case it is in Taurus at 28º. We have a couple of days to fully tap into the energy of Taurus before the Sun goes into Gemini. The Taurus new moon starts off in stabilizing fixed energy on May 19th. Two days later on May 21st the Sun transits into Gemini's flexible and adaptable energy. This is a great time to use the focus areas of Taurus to set intentions to get rooted in your values and beliefs. This will help you to persevere in completing the projects started over the last two Aries new moons. It will also help with projects long ago abandoned (I have those). We find ourselves having the stamina to get lost in our work until we reach completion. This will prepare us for the adaptable mutable energy of the full, waning and Gemini new moon. Gemini energy is adaptable, flexible, and go with the flow. This will help us to be efficient (Virgo), optimistic (Sagittarius) and imaginative (Pisces). What is Taurus? Taurus is the zodiac sign known as the bull; the energy is determined and even stubborn at times. It is just what we need to slow down and get rooted in our personal resources such as time, money, and home. • What's your 2024 tarot card?

Happy New Year! It is that time of year when the collective is full of hope. The new year is a blank slate and we have an opportunity to make plans for the year ahead. For years now I have calculated my tarot year card. I came up with it when I learned about the Tarot Birth Card through the Tarot School. However, later I learned that Mary Greer wrote extensively about Tarot Year Cards in her book, Who Are You in the Tarot? Haha, great minds think alike? Every new year we are presented with blessings, challenges, and lessons. 2024 is no different. Knowing our Tarot Year Card helps us to focus on the wisdom that presents itself during the year. It helps us to be prepared and to be more objective when situations arise. Every year we are presented with blessings, challenges, and lessons. Going through it all turns into our wisdom. What are Tarot Year Cards? The idea behind Tarot Year Cards is that for each year of our life there is a corresponding tarot card. The tarot card comes from the Major Arcana and it represents a theme one will experience that particular year. I was so intrigued by this concept that I created a spreadsheet to find out my Tarot Year Card from birth (Tarot Birth Card) until my 100th year. This exercise revealed that we go through ten year cycles. The tarot cards come up in chronological order for ten years and then reset on the 11th year. For example let's look at 14 years in my own cycle. I chose 14 so you can see two years before the cycle starts and two years after the cycle ends. What is the collective Tarot Card Theme for 2024? The collective Tarot Card theme for 2024 is Strength. Conviction, Persistence, Endurance The year of Strength brings you the gift of conviction. Trust your gut, take a deep breath, and with persistence spiral into synchronicity. It is a great time to practice patience with yourself and others. Your endurance skills will be put to the test. How do I calculate my Tarot Year Card? You may be asking yourself, what is my 2024 tarot card? The calculation is pretty easy and most people can do it in their heads, but not me, haha. To calculate your tarot year card use a birthdate: The month + day. Example: August 20th Numerically it is 08 + 20. Then add 08 +20 to desired year. I will use 2024. 08+20+2024=2052. Reduce the sum to 22 or less. 2052 = 2+0+5+1 =9 = The Hermit Perspective, Retreat, Introspection As a Gemini rising I'm extremely curious and inquisitive. This led me to create a tarot year card spreadsheet. See excerpt above. I did it from my birth year all the way to 100. I recommend you do this exercise for yourself. I learned that some Major Arcana cards will appear as a Year Card Theme over and over, while others will never come up. For me, this means I work with the themes of Justice and The Hanged Man in every 10 year cycle of my life. While in 100 years I will not work with the themes of The High Priestess or Judgement. It just means that in this lifetime I already possess the energies of the High Priestess and Judgement. While the energies of Justice and The Hanged Man are the ones that will be a consistent work in progress for me. Some Major Arcana cards will appear as your Tarot Year Card over and over, while others will never come up. Which tarot cards come up the most for you? Those themes are your strengths. Which ones don't show up at all? Those are your life lessons. What are my Tarot Year Card Themes? Add up your numbers and find your 2024 year theme below. Please note: there are no good or bad year cards. As you can see from the chart above 2021 was a Devil year for me. The themes are Indulgence, Limitations, Vices. I was aware of this throughout the year and it helped me to regulate myself so I remained balanced. It also led me to the conclusion that indulgence in moderation is a great thing. As for vices, I challenged myself to switch out destructive vices for more constructive ones. Coming up in 2024, I'm entering the third year of my ten year cycle with The Hermit. The themes are Perspective, Retreat, Introspection. It is the perfecct theme for me this year as I have a big project I'm working on and retreat and introspection will come in handy.
