  • New Moon in Virgo

The New Moon is initiating a cycle in Virgo on Monday, September 6th a 8:52pm ET. The new moon is a time of new beginnings and initiations. This means it is an ideal time to set intentions aligned with Virgo rulerships including work, critical thinking, and physical health. More on Virgo rulerships below. Virgo is mutable and that means change. When a sign is mutable it signifies it is the last month of the season and that change is coming. In this case we are at the end of Summer and Autumn will be here at the start of the Libra season in about two weeks on September 22nd. I have already noticed one of the first signs of autumn, brown leaves on the ground. Have you taken noticed of any signs of Autumn in your neighborhood? Virgo is the sign of work, duty, and responsibility to self and others. When we are under the influence of Virgo there is a need to analyze our thoughts, feelings, and actions so that we can function better. One way we can do this is by setting up routines for exercise, eating healthy foods, and having organized spaces. Virgo Major Arcana Tarot Cards In Tarot, Virgo is represented by the Hermit who represents wisdom, introspection, meditation, and leadership by example. Virgo is ruled by Mercury, represented by The Magician who serves as a link between ideas and their physical existence. The Virgo New Moon Tarot and Astrology workbook dives into all six tarot cards associated with Virgo. The energy of the new moon is most potent up to 72 hours after the new moon which is happening on Monday, September 6th at 8:52pm ET, so set an alarm, take out your pen and paper, and set your intentions. The tarot spread provides insight into what is currently growing, at fruition, and asking to be released in my life. In addition, it provides a framework for which to nourish the things I want and to reflect so I may make adjustments in my personal life journey. What is the seed of the Virgo New Moon? (use card number 5 from your Leo New Moon Tarot Spread, or start fresh this moonth). What begins to grow as the moon waxes in Scorpio? What peaks as the moon becomes full in Aquarius? What do you let go of as the moon wanes in Gemini? What is the seed of the upcoming moonth in Virgo? (use this card as card number 1 for the New moon in Virgo tarot spread next new moon). I like to think of this as a spiral spread as I go back to it weekly when the moon changes phase from new moon to waxing first quarter moon, the full moon, the waning third quarter moon, and finally a few days before the next new moon at the dark moon phase. The Virgo New Moon Tarot and Astrology Workbook provides all the information in this blog post, all six tarot cards associated with Virgo, the tarot and astrology wheel showcasing where all 78 cards fall on the zodiac, additional tarot spreads for each of the moon phases referenced above, plus much, much, more. Virgo New Moon Circle If you want to discuss your tarot spread in a sacred circle join the Virgo New Moon Circle on Monday, September 6th at 7pm ET. Sharing in a new moon circle creates a powerful force that supports, embraces, and inspires thoughtful speaking and deep listening for lasting change and transformation. We will discuss the energy and rulerships of Virgo and discuss how it is showing up in our lives. One of the things I like most about sharing in a new moon circle is how one can either be a mirror, opposite, or compliment of what others are going through at the moment making for deep reflection and introspection. • Astrology and Tarot Wheel Part 1

I am one of those people that loves when things are organized and in order. I especially love charts, spreadsheets, and most recently Kanban boards. When I started to learn Astrology and Tarot together I created a spreadsheet to make sense of it along with the first iteration of what I'm referring to as the YesSpiral Astrology and Tarot Wheel, you can read about that here. Over time I have packed the wheel with six layers information. I suspect just looking at the wheel above can cause a bit of panic or make you want to take out your magnifying glass or just stop reading right here. However, this blog post is intended to acquaint with the YesSpiral Tarot and Astrology Wheel. Once you get to know it, you will think it is easy to use. I like to print one out and chart where the tarot cards from my readings fall for additional information, to find patterns, and sometimes even for timing. I include a wheel in each of the The New Moon, Tarot, and Astrology Workbooks. I use it to chart the moon's whereabouts on the wheel as it transits the zodiac and changes phases every new moon cycle. The complete YesSpiral Astrology and Tarot Wheel pictured above charts the Solstices and Equinoxes, the four seasons, 78 tarot cards, 12 zodiac signs, 10 planets, four elements, and three modalities. I'll break it down below so you can get to know its six layers one layer at a time in three parts. This way the information is easier to comprehend and retain. • New Moon in Leo

The New Moon is initiating a cycle in Leo on Sunday, August 8th at 9:50am ET. The new moon is a time of new beginnings and initiations which means it is an ideal time to set intentions aligned with Leo rulerships including matters of the heart, creativity, self-confidence, and determination. More on Leo rulerships below. The Leo new moon ruled by the Sun is aligning with the spiritual sun star Sirius (the brightest star in the night's sky) on August 8th signifying harmony in the spiritual and physical world. This alignment is called the Lion's Gate Portal. Also, the number eight is the same shape as the lemniscate the symbol of infinity giving our intentions an energetic boost to manifest what we want in our lives. There are four tarot cards that showcase a lemniscate. Do you know which they are? Hint one of them represents Leo in Tarot. Leo Tarot Cards In Tarot, Leo is represented by Strength who symbolizes courage, self-discipline, and determination. The woman in the card is displaying spiritual courage and inner harmony to tame the Lion, the king of the jungle. She does it with warmth and kindness instead of force and cruelty. Where in your life do you most need strength at the moment? Leo is ruled by the Sun, Earth's source for light and energy and vitality. Everything in our solar system revolves around the sun which is why its symbol is a circle with a dot in the center. In astrology The Sun symbolizes the ego and the self. When someone asks what's your sign? What they are really asking is what is your sun sign. In tarot, the Sun symbolizes confidence, self-esteem, willpower, and purpose. • Upward Spirals

Positive life changes cause positive neural changes altering the brain's circuitry to lead in further positive changes creating an upward spiral. You've probably heard of downward spirals and it conjures up images of people living a life that is out of balance but what about upward spirals? This is the question that Alex Korb, PHD discusses in his book The Upward Spiral, Using Neuroscience to Reverse the Course of Depression, One Small Change at a time. He says, downward spirals occur because of events that happen and the decisions made, change the brain's activity which can put us in a worried, anxious, and depressed state. On the other hand, positive life changes cause positive neural changes altering the brain's circuitry to lead in further positive changes. What is an Upward Spiral? A simple life change like going to sleep an hour earlier can lead to further changes which in turn lead to a series of expanding positive changes in life. For example, going to sleep an hour earlier can lead to waking up earlier so there is time for exercise which can lead to better sleep -> reducing anxiety -> improving mood -> gaining more energy to exercise -> generating better relationships -> and a general feeling of being happier -> this is how easy it is to create an upward spiral. It starts with making one simple change to a daily routine. Alex Korb says "the brain circuits that help us to plan, solve problems and make decisions are the same ones that lead to worrying. The brain circuits that keep us out of danger are the same circuits that cause anxiety." It is not possible to eliminate or suppress those circuits because they are a necessary part of life. Worry and anxiety are distinct but related you can have one without the other. In essence worrying is thinking about a problem whereas anxiety is feeling the problem. Worry and anxiety are figments of our imagination. Worry and anxiety do not exist outside of our minds. Feelings to be aware of Awareness of worry and anxiety can help to suppress it. Just being aware of the following feelings can help reduce its impact: shortness of breath dizziness muscle tension upset stomach chest pain feelings of dread How to create an Upward Spiral Alex Korb goes over eight ways to create upward spirals. I will focus on four: exercise, making goals, sleep, and cultivating a gratitude practice. Exercise Is the most powerful and easiest way to create an upward spiral as it shares many of the same effects on the brain as antidepressants and recreational drugs. So you get all the good feelings without all the nasty side effects of drugs. I know this is easier said than done so get yourself an accountability partner, or commit to a practice for 40 days. Alternatively, don't do exercise! Instead take the stairs, ride a bike or walk to work instead of taking the subway. Take up dancing. Get creative and have fun with it. Set Goals Setting intentions leads to setting goals and people are at their best when working toward achievable goals like purchasing a home or earning a promotion at work. Start by brainstorming what is important to you and create a specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound goals aka Smart Goals. Sleep Making time for and creating the right environment for a good night's sleep will lead to elevated mood, lowered stress, better memory, clear thinking, and better decision making. Consider how many hours of sleep you are getting per night and shoot for seven to eight. Create preparing for sleep ritual where you wind down before bed perhaps with a cup of herbal tea. Gratitude Practice Thinking and expressing gratitude makes it easier to feel positive emotions which lead to upward spirals. One way to cultivate a gratitude practice is by keeping a gratitude journal, you can write 1- 5 things you are grateful for every day. You can also express gratitude every day upon waking up and thinking about 1 - 5 things. Everything is interconnected, gratitude improves sleep. Sleep improves focus and decision making. Improved decision making leads to getting up and doing some exercise which leads to feeling better about yourself and on an upward spiral.

  • The Celtic Cross

If you have a tarot deck and have looked at the little white book you have most likely already encountered the Celtic Cross Spread. It is the first spread I learned and is still my go to spread for general readings. It has a way of acting as a mirror and getting to the heart of what is going on in the questioner's life. It always taps into great insight particularly when it is used as a collaborative spread. When I used the Celtic Cross Spread I lay out the cards and I work in collaboration with the questioner. I use my knowledge of the traditional meanings of the cards along with intuitive revelations and astrological correspondences combined with insights from the questioner. The reading is richer when many elements are combined, especially, insights from the questioner. The Celtic Cross Spread reveals what is happening now and what could happen if things continue as they are. It shines a light on the things that are kept in the shadow. It provides the information you need to know right now in order to make the changes, moves, and decisions that will shape the future you believe is best for you. The Celtic Cross Tarot Spread Positions The Present / You - This position shows what is happening now. The heart of the matter. The thing that is of concern at the moment. Crosses You or Holds You Up - This position informs us of the challenger or helper at the moment. Known - This position shows what you consciously know, what you want at the moment, and or what your focus or goal is. Unknown - This position represents what you don't know is currently playing a role in the unconscious mind. It is usually something that is surprising but makes perfect sense once it is exposed. The Past - This position shows the past and how it has influenced the current situation. The Future - This position shows an outcome that can manifest in reality if everything stays the same. You - This position represents you now generally. It reveals the role your actions play in influencing the heart of the matter. Influences Around You - This position represents your environment and how it is affecting you or how you are perceived by others. Hopes or Fears - This position represents either a hope or a fear and sometimes it represents both. All the preceding cards must be taken into consideration before it is determined if this position is a hope or a fear. Outcome - This position shows a probable outcome. In the traditional Celtic Cross Spread it is only one card but I like to get additional information with two cards, especially if the outcome is a challenge. In summary, the Celtic Cross Spread is what many people call a complicated spread but we are all complex beings. We require an in-depth look at what is driving the heart of the matter, what is rooted in the conscious and unconscious mind, how the past is influencing our future, and how our own actions, narratives, desires, and values are manifesting our future. I invite you to lay the cards out for yourself and see what is revealed. Alternatively, I will be happy to work in collaboration with you to see what is heart of your matter.

Moon Cycles compared to Plant Cycles I like to compare the new moon cycle to the cycle of a plant. At the new moon phase seeds are planted. This is when we set our intentions and goals. At the waxing first quarter moon phase, the seeds have sprouted and are growing into a visible plant. This is when we are seeing progress because we have taken action to make our intentions into reality. At the full moon phase the plant is now at its peak and has blossomed. The flower and or fruit of a plant represents the culmination/peak of the plant. This is a time to celebrate progress and count your blessings. At the waning third quarter moon phase the flower has wilted and started to release. At the dark moon the flower is now releasing seeds for the next new moon. I like use a tarot spread as a framework to keep me on track to manifesting my intentions and goals. Each of the five cards in the spread below corresponds to the phases described above. I refer to this spread on a weekly basis and it helps me to refine, reevaluate and reinforce my intentions so they may manifest in my physical reality. New Moon Tarot Spread Do the tarot spread below at each new moon as each spread spirals into the next. Card 1 - Planting seeds of intention - New Moon Card 2 -The seed grows - Waxing Moon Card 3 - Plant blossoms - Full Moon Card 4 - Plant releases seeds - Waning Moon Card 5 - Receive seeds and plant them next new moon - Next New Moon Tarot Spread What is the seed of the Taurus Moonth? (Use card 5 as card 1 for the next cycle) Waxing | Full | Waning I will write a blog post for each of the moon phases. At each of the phases of the moon, I come back to my new moon tarot spread. I take the card that represents the moon phase, for example Card 2 is the Waxing Moon/ Seed Grows phase. Then place the card into card one position and I ask yourself introspective questions. Here are some example openers for the questions. They are always opened ended and intended to get your mind and intuition working together. What begins to grow as the moon waxes? How can I.. What do I need to know about .. Where What is Then I use an additional four questions for introspection and insights. The moon stands in the center of the light of the full moon and dark of the new moon. The Aquarius third quarter waning moon asks us to pause, reflect, assess, and release any fears around being original and authentic. The real you is the best you. Aquarius is a fixed sign (like Leo and Scorpio. Leo focuses on action, Scorpio focuses on emotions, and Aquarius focuses on intellect. Take out your curious and open-minded hat and concentrate on exploring possibilities and finding a fresh perspective. At the Aquarius waning moon is a time to take action in cutting away any narratives that no longer suit the you that is currently metamorphosing. Aquarius energy invites in a need to be innovative, original, and create social change. The waning moon is a time to release which means it is time to release any fears, blocks, or resistance around being innovative, original, and creating social change. Maybe its time you find a new way to do your work. For example I started using project management software to map out all the tasks I want to complete. This makes things so much easier for me and its an innovative way to approach the tasks I want and need to complete. The planetary ruler of Aquarius is Uranus the let me be me planet. Tap into Uranian energy when when you want to be unique and liberate yourself from the past. When the moon is waning it is a good time to pause, reflect, assess, and release any thoughts and narratives (because Aquarius is an air sign) that interfere with how you see yourself as a leader (because we are still under the Aries umbrella). Replace narratives that hinder your success with constructive affirmations that support you now. Try telling yourself positive things like "I love my life". If that sounds too out of reach try "My life is getting better every day". You can also make it a point to celebrate any small wins you have on a daily basis. It can even be small things like arriving at the subway station just as the train pulls in. Reflect and Assess Take a look at your intentions and notes from the Aries new moon and consider what is asking to be released. What can you cut away to make room space for your Aries intentions to manifest. Also, what can you release to make room to set your Taurus intentions next week? Review Your Scorpio New Moon Intentions The Scorpio New Moon was on November 13th 2023 Did you set intentions at the Scorpio new moon back in November 2023? If you didn't, think about what you were up to in the middle of November. If you can't remember (that was six months ago!) go into your calendar or do a search on your phone to see the pictures you took around that time to jog your memory. If you did, go to your notes and review your intentions, goals, or wishes. Have any of them come to fruition? Yes? Great! You are focused on what you want. No? do you still want to work on that? Is it aligned with what you want now? If not, let it go, throw it into the fire. Walking away from things is totally okay. It is one way of getting clear about what we want in our lives. If yes, take a moment to breathe in some fresh energy to your power center and call on the initiating and assertive energy of Aries. Imagine how manifesting those intentions will make you feel. If it feels good, continue working on it. If you feel discomfort then go back and re-word your intention or scrap it.
